Welcoming Declan Granville to Tenn – Our New Senior Operations Manager

We’re delighted to announce the appointment of Declan Granville as our new Senior Operations Manager, who joins us at a very exciting time for the business. As in the past few months we’ve celebrated our third birthday, refreshed our branding / website and hit record lending volumes.

Declan has a huge amount of experience in finance, starting his career with the Bank of Butterfield in their investments decision. He then took the brave decision to emigrate to Australia where he held a variety of managerial positions at notable companies, including; J.P.Morgan, Northern Trust, Mutual Trust and MaxCap Group – Australia’s largest non-bank lender of CRE debt. Fortunately he’s now returned to Guersney and took time out to share some of his insights and wisdom with us.

What is your main area of responsibility at Tenn?

I will be working across multiple areas of the Tenn business. Tenn is a fast-evolving company on an incredible trajectory, and my aim is to wear multiple different hats across, ops, credit and origination to help manage workloads and add value wherever possible.

What drew you to joining the team at Tenn?

I have been following Tenn’s progress for some time now and have known Matt in a professional capacity for 15 years. After several months of talking to Tenn and meeting different members of the team, it was clear to me Tenn was where I wanted to work. An agile business that is fast gaining a fantastic reputation in an exciting marketplace. A driven and supportive team with a CEO that I trust and believe in. It was a no brainer for me.

Reflecting on your career, could you share a notable milestone or accomplishment that you take particular pride in, and what valuable lessons did you draw from that experience?

I was part of a project team that was instrumental to a merger between two of Australia’s largest family offices. The merger was a massive success creating the largest multi-family office in the country, increasing revenue and fuelling higher client retention.

Having to take two client books, two portfolio administration systems and two sets of processes and merge them all into one. I learnt how to analyse, optimise and reengineer critical processes.

What are the challenges of going through a relocation from the other side of the world?

Timing, trying to make sure everything lined-up timing wise was the most difficult part of the relocation, from employment – resigning from our jobs in Australia and finding employment in Guernsey, to our living situation – selling our home in Melbourne and securing a rental in Guernsey, my partners visa etc.

However, the most stressful aspect of the move was my dog’s travel arrangements and making sure he arrived safely. My wife would never have forgiven me if he hadn’t.

What is one key piece of advice you would offer those beginning their career?

Be a sponge. You can learn something from everyone, all of us have different strengths and weaknesses. Soak up as much knowledge as you can from the people around you and then work as hard as you can to implement what you’ve learnt.

How do you like to spend your free time?

I love to spend time with family and friends which was the main reason behind my relocation back to the island. I love all things sport related, whether that’s participating or spectating. My wife and I love to travel, eat at good restaurants and spend time walking our Cavapoo Jax.
